So You Wannabe a Popstar? is a fabulous new music variety show that follows the ups and downs of a group of well-known Kiwis as they try for new-found stardom as popstars.  

Mikey Havoc, Louise Wallace, John '”Cocksy” Cocks, Shortland Street's David Wikaira-Paul, Miss Popularity winner Jessie Gurunathan, and former Shortland Street stars Blair Strang and Katrina Hobbs have all accepted the Popstar challenge. Trouble is – most of them are not known for their singing prowess!  

The wannabe popstars will strut, shimmy, and sing their way across the stage in their attempts to convince the studio audience and the viewers at home – that they should be crowned the ultimate winner.  

The songs are all pop classics that you will recognise immediately. But in a cruel twist, they won’t be able to choose their own songs – and will have to perform the songs selected for them. Will Cocksy nail his rendition of I Got You Babe or will it come unhinged? Will Louise Wallace get your motor running with Dancing In The Street or will she be the weakest link? 

From the truly terrible to the simply sensational – you could be there to witness the tears and triumphs of the live performances. So come along and see some of your favourite well-known Kiwis perform in a way you’ve never seen them perform before … all because they “Wannabe Popstars!”
