About the show

The “great Kiwi backyard” gets a makeover like never before in Garden Wars – where three couples battle it out to create the ultimate outdoor living.  

In round one, three couples are given $1,000 each and have just two weeks – with NO outside help – to make initial improvements to their garden. What they do is entirely up to them. Their efforts are judged by garden designer Tony Murrell, who eliminates one family.  

The two remaining families each receive another $5,000 and have a further eight weeks to transform their gardens. Towards the end of Round Two they will have the chance to visit their competitors’ garden and compare it to their own, before judge Tony makes his decision and picks the winner!  

The last remaining family wins the ultimate prize of another $10,000 – and plenty of professional help. We follow their progress as they continue to transform their once tired and boring backyard until their ultimate dream garden is finally revealed in all its glory.   Presenter Kelly Swanson Roe and “garden designer extraordinaire” Tony Murrell are joined by newcomers Paul Thorowgood and Robin Bevan.
